Our mission at Casa De Sol Animal Sanctuary is to provide compassion, nourishment, and lifesaving care to the stray dogs and cats of

Amapala, Honduras. We are dedicated to building a safe haven where vulnerable animals can heal, be rehabilitated, and find hope. Through community support and mass spay-and-neuter clinics, we strive to reduce overpopulation and ensure that no animal is left starving, suffering, or alone.

Our Purpose and Vision

Hi, my name is Christina, and I’m the founder of Casa De Sol Animal Sanctuary—a mission born from love, heartbreak, and hope for the animals on the small island of Amapala, Honduras.

I’ve traveled to Amapala for years. While the island is beautiful and full of culture, its stray animals survive with no access to food, shelter, or basic care. With no veterinary clinic or animal services, countless dogs and cats suffer from malnutrition, parasites, preventable diseases, and untreated injuries.

This mission became personal after I met a local puppy named Sol. I visited her on every trip for two years—she was gentle, sweet, and quickly stole my heart. On one visit, she looked healthy; later that same day, she passed away suddenly from an illness that likely could have been prevented with simple veterinary care. Sol was never vaccinated or spayed because those services don’t exist on the island.

Losing Sol broke me, but it also sparked the moment I knew I had to act.

While our long-term goal is to build Amapala’s first animal sanctuary and veterinary clinic, we are currently focused on meeting the most urgent needs of the animals suffering right now.
